Haemophilus ducreyi
General:
Clinical: Sexually transmitted, producing a painful genital soft chancre/ulcer, which can potentially be confused with syphilis or herpes.
- Normal:
- Abnormal: Genital soft chancre.
Resistance:
Morphology: Small Gram- rod which tends to arrange in "schools of fish" formation on smears, and is characteristic enough for presumptive identification.
Growth characteristics: Difficult to grow even on chocolate agar enriched with hemin and NAD.
