Myeloproliferative
The myeloproliferative diseases are clonal hematopoietic stem cell disorders characterised by bone marrow proliferation of one or more of the myeloid (granulocytic, erythroid, megakaryocytic) lineages.
Splenomegaly and hepatomegaly are common, caused by some combination of the sequestration of excess blood cells, extramedullary hematopoiesis, and/or leukemic infiltration.
Despite an often insidious clinical onset, the myeloproliferative diseases may undergo clonal evolution and progress to bone marrow failure due to myelofibrosis or ineffective hematopoiesis, or progress to an acute blast phase.
